Judge Roy Moore

Roy L. Moore

In a legal career spanning almost 30 years, Roy Moore has earned a reputation for his principled, dedicated and compassionate approach to the practice of family law. Moore served as Associate and Presiding Judge of the 245th Family District Court for over 10 years. He has been Board Certified in Family Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization since 2001, and promotes ethical and effective legal techniques through the numerous speeches and papers he presents across Texas.

Moore is a 5th generation Texan, and it is with a great sense of honor and privilege that he serves his home state. Though his tireless efforts to secure justice and safety for Harris County families begin with his professional service, they certainly do not end there. As a Captain in the Texas State Guard, Roy is always prepared to provide aid to Texans when they need it most. With a constant eye toward the future, he has also sought to properly educate the next generations of Texas family lawyers by serving as an adjunct professor at the South Texas College of Law since 2003.

As a part of the MVS team, Roy brings the unique insight of a former presiding judge to every case. He knows that every client’s situation is individual. Having resided over hundreds of cases, he’s able to bring real insight and compassion to each situation. Moore has proven that understanding and tenacity get results. His steadfast determination and deep understanding of Texas law provides the reassurance and guidance that clients deserve.

Moore graduated from Southern Methodist University in 1985 with a B.S. in Engineering. He later attended South Texas College of Law, where he earned his J.D. in 1990. He practiced family law for over 17 before his appointment as the Associate Judge of the 245th Family District Court in 2007 and was elected Presiding Judge of the 245th in 2010 and reelected unopposed in 2014.

Paula Vlahakos

Paula brings over 2 decades of exemplary experience to the MVS team. Her background with esteemed, specialty firms for family law and experience as an Associate Judge for the 247th District Court gives Vlahakos real discernment into what counts in family law cases. By combining her knowledge of the courtroom with her proficiency in private practice, Paula has built a reputation for getting the best results for her clients.

Integrity is at the core of Vlahakos’ business acumen. Having overseen a vast array of family law cases, Paula recognizes what is effective and what are the best strategies for each particular situation. No client is the same. No case is the same. And Vlahakos uses her extensive comprehension of the law and courtroom prowess to drive every case forward towards a positive conclusion.

Paula graduated from Loyola University in Chicago with Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Criminal Justice, received a Master’s Degree in Political Science from the University of Houston and earned a Doctorate of Jurisprudence from South Texas College of Law in 1998. She was admitted to the State Bar of Texas in 1999. While in law school Paula was a member of the Law Review.

Prior to her terms as a family court judge, Paula worked with the firms of Short, Jenkins, Kamin and Short, Carter, Morris. Her experience also includes working as the legislative coordinator for Service Corporation International and as the community outreach coordinator for The Children’s Assessment Center/Harris County Children’s Protective Services. Vlahakos’ strong conviction for education is represented by her experience with teaching at Houston Community College and serving as a member of the board of AVDA – Aid to Victims of Domestic Abuse. Paula has co-authored continuing legal education materials for the State Bar of Texas, frequently speaks at continuing legal education seminars and is a certified mediator.

David Sydow

David Sydow

Experience on a global scale defines the career of David Sydow. Before adding his expertise to the MVS team, David refined his aptitude for litigation through decades of applied action. As Associate Judge of the 308th District Court, David presided over a wide range of Texas family law. Prior to his appointment as judge, Sydow led the litigation arm of the esteemed law firm Sydow and Associates. His career began with work at the Third Court of Appeals, the Texas Board of Pharmacy and at the United Nations in Geneva.

Although David’s background is broad on a geographic scale, his focus has consistently been on family law. Sydow applies his insider, practical knowledge directly towards the goals of our clients. His acute understanding of family law and relentless drive for results mean that our cases move with the utmost efficiency towards the best outcome possible.

Sydow graduated from Baylor University in 2001 as Magna Cum Laude. David continued his education at UT Law School, graduating with honors and acting as editor of the Review of Litigation.
